Makeup brushes can harbor lots of dirt and bacteria, but frequent washing of your makeup brushes can keep them - and your face - clean and healthy.
Discover how you can wash clean your makeup brushes of old cosmetics residue and extend the life of your brushes and keep them bacteria free.
- Gather all of the cosmetic brushes that you use on your face. This includes eyeshadow brushes, blush brushes, concealer brushes and lipstick brushes.
- Lay a clean towel on the counter next to the sink. Have a gentle soap or any shampoo by the sink too.
- Take each brush and rinse it under hot water. Lather the bristles in soap or shampoo and gently massage them. Wash any face sponges too.
- Rinse out each brush thoroughly with hot water. If the brush is clean, the water will rinse clear.
- Mold the brush back to its original shape and lay it on the clean towel to dry. Repeat Steps 3 through 5 for each brush. Now your brushes will be clean, and you reduced the risk of exposing your face to acne-causing bacteria.
- Wash your brushes every 2 weeks.
- Cleaning your brushes will keep them in quality shape.
- Be gentle when cleaning your brushes so you do not pull out any bristles.
